To create is to imagine, it is to awaken inspiration, it is to be transformed into a channel of expression of that which is captured with the most subtle open look and which is capable of giving form to a feeling with the greatest beauty that hands can express. On looking at this work one is certain that all this is achieved, if it were not so, the work would free such emotion.

In the here and now, confronting those who hate and destroy, those who love and create can be found. It is within this framework that artists have an essential role, because whilst one is absorbed in this type of work, a space inside us is opened to peace, to calm or to love which the painter has known how to capture and transmit with a paint brush and a canvas.

To create a space for contemplation in this turbulent world in which we live seems to be a privilege reserved for only a few. However, far from what would appear, it is within the reach of all those who want to discover a marvellous microcosm rich in texture, light and colour. All that which nature offers us in a generous and unselfish manner.

If when we contemplate how waves break on the sand of the beach and we become lost in thought, enriching ourselves with so much tranquillity, we then experience much the same feeling when looking at these paintings. We look out of a window that takes us to seclusion, to the essence of creation.

His paintings break with any hieratical attitude. The pose chosen for the subject, the knowing look, the composition, the play of light... show how a fixed image can be full of life. That life that his models give off and that he knows how to discover and capture in his many portraits. Standing out among them are those of film directors under the title “El ojo transversal”, which will be exhibited in Spain to promote Spanish cinema.

In a recent interview the artist explained his reasons for choosing portraiture, “after having painted many landscapes and still life’s, I have discovered that catching the depth of a look and give shape to the soul of the person portrayed is only able to a few. Meeting the person to achieve the photos shooting as previous material for the execution of the portrait in oil on canvas constitute a great challenge for me that I face with my double commitment in life, truth and beauty, with many hours of work and the utmost of humility”.

Crear es imaginar, es despertar a la inspiración, es convertirse en canal de expresión de aquello que se capta con una mirada abierta desde lo más sutil, y es ser capaz de darle forma a un sentimiento con la mayor belleza que unas manos puedan expresar. Pues bien, al ver esta obra uno tiene la certeza de que en ella se cumplen estas pautas, de no ser así no podría movilizar tanta emoción.

En el aquí y ahora frente a los que odian y destruyen se encuentran los que aman y crean. Y es en este marco donde los artistas tienen un papel esencial, porque mientras uno se sumerge en este tipo de obra se abre un espacio en nuestro interior a la paz, a la calma o al amor que el autor ha sabido atrapar y transmitir mediante un pincel y un lienzo.

Hacer un hueco a la contemplación en este mundo agitado en el que nos ha tocado vivir no deja de ser un privilegio, al parecer, reservado para unos pocos. Sin embargo, lejos de las apariencias está al alcance de todo aquel que quiera descubrir un maravilloso microcosmos rico en texturas, luz y color. Aquellas que nos brinda la naturaleza de manera generosa y desinteresada.

Si al contemplar cómo las olas del mar baten sobre la arena nos ensimismamos nutriéndonos de tanta quietud, frente a estos cuadros tenemos una sensación similar. Nos asomamos a una ventana que nos traslada al recogimiento, a la esencia de la creación. Sus cuadros rompen cualquier proximidad al hieratismo. La pose elegida para el personaje, la mirada cómplice, la composición, el juego de luces... demuestran cómo una imagen fija puede estar llena de vida. Esa vida que desprenden sus modelos y que ha sabido descubrir y plasmar en sus numerosos retratos. Entre ellos destacan los realizados a directores de cine bajo el epígrafe “El ojo transversal”, futura exposición en España con la que desea promocionar el cine español.

En una entrevista realizada recientemente el artista exponía sus razones por las que había optado por el retrato, “después de pintar infinidad de paisajes y naturalezas muertas me he dado cuenta que captar la profundidad de la mirada y plasmar el alma del retrato se encuentra al alcance de unos pocos. Encontrarme con la persona, en toda su acepción de los términos encuentro y persona, realizar la sesión de fotos como material de partida previo para la ejecución del retrato al óleo, constituyen un gran reto que afronto con mi doble compromiso frente a la vida, verdad y belleza, con muchas horas de oficio y con extrema humildad”.
